New! Our Visitor Experience Plan
A Roadmap for improving visitorship to the Museum
On June 6th 2024, a facilitation session between community stakeholders, board members of the museum and Washington County government was held to define the museum's first Visitor Experience Plan. This session was led by Grove Public Relations who completed the final plan. The Washington County Office of Grants Management approved funding from the Charitable Gaming Program of $2,500 and the Hotel Rental Tax Fund of $5,000. The remaining balance of $2,500 was paid for by the Friends of the Washington County Rural Heritage Museum, the non=profit who is responsible for shepherding the collections.
More exciting news! On December 2nd 2024, we received funding in the amount of $4,783 from the Heart of the Civil War Heritage Area to begin improving the visitor experience in the Open-air Village and Homestead with the ultimate goal of increasing visitorship which ultimatley will help draw more tourism to the county. This first phase will include installing wayside markers and a welcome kiosk. We will begin creating wayside markers in this first phase for the original structures that were moved to the campus. These structures are: the Spickler Country Store, Mt. Tabor Church, Dr. Peter Fahrney early medical office, Glass Family log cabin, Poffenberger cabin and Reeder Cabin. The welcome center kiosk will be installed in the vicinity of parking lot to orient visitors as they arrive.
