Rural History Day - Early Surgery & Medicine
Saturday November 2, 2024 Presentation 1:30pm -2:30 pm with tour to follow.
Pus, boils, enemas and vomiting...amputations, trepanations, lithotomies and bloodletting...Perhaps not polite conversation, but common occurrences of 18th century life. How would you fare in sickness and in health during the time of Washington, Franklin and Adams?
Learn about Colonial Physicians, the advancements of science, where medicine came from, and the surgical tools they used. A great blend of science, history, grossness, and entertainment!
Huge leaps where being made from America's founding years into it's first century, and Matthew will also highlight the differences between medical cases using the Washington County Rural Heritage Museum's Dr. Fahrney Office!
A tour of the Dr. Fahrney office collection in the Rural Village follows the presentation.
Admission to this look into the medicinal practices of the past and tour $15 for non-museum members which includes admission into all three indoor museum building collections.
